Angela Hein

Wanderer, wonderer and health foodie, Angela is an avid label reader and devoted smoothie maker. She enjoys jogging, yoga, the great outdoors, and spending time with her toddler.

Angela found true health and wellness after a decade of yo-yo dieting that led to a depleted and depressed life. From starvation to counting calories, low carb to all carbs, and obsessive workouts, she had tried it all. Then, she hit the brilliant age of 30 and discovered the “no diet” diet where she learned to enjoy all things in moderation, maintain a diet of organic whole foods, eat mostly plants, supplement as needed, and most importantly – listen to her body. And, today she feels amazing.

She wants you to feel amazing too, which is why she co-founded The Natural Citizen to share with you the honest truth about health, wellness and good wholesome food. Now you can follow along on her journey, and enjoy some of her delicious smoothie experiments too!

Q&A with Angela

What is something that often surprises people about you?

I grew up in a small town on the great plains of Central Kansas. When I was 20 years old, I packed up and moved to Brazil for a year, and I greatly credit that experience for opening my eyes to the world.

What is your favorite The Natural Citizen product?

Tough question because I use them all! But, if I have to name just one, I use the Organic Protein daily as a base for my morning smoothie, so that is probably my favorite. However, I try not to go a day without Organic Digest as I certainly notice when I forget to take it.

What is your favorite smoothie recipe?

I love trying new fruits and vegetables in smoothies for our Recipe section on our Blog. However, like anyone, I have a “go-to” blend for the days when I’m in a bit of a rush. It’s simply:

½ Cup Unsweetened Organic Almond Milk
½ Frozen Banana
1/4 Frozen Avocado
5 Frozen Strawberries
1 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
1 Tbsp. Almond Butter
1 Serving Organic Protein
1 Serving Organic Digest
Pinch of Cayenne Pepper
Fill the rest of the blender up with Greens like Arugula or Spinach

I realize that it’s not the sweetest smoothie on the block, but it’s loaded with so much goodness, and to me it tastes delicious!

Integrity is not just an attribute - it’s a way of life. That’s how Nadia thinks about it.  

At a young age Nadia often found herself defending the underdog and pushing friends and family to be true to themselves. Growing up, her fiery personality and passion for the truth landed her in numerous heated debates with friends, family and anyone else who dared – and that is how she found her calling as a lawyer.

Early on in her career, her passion for the truth and justice led her to defending the less fortunate as an attorney. And, later on, Nadia took on the food and beverage industry as a regulatory and legal expert where she relentlessly fought to ensure products adhered to government standards.

Growing up in Mexico Nadia never had to question the quality of the ingredients on her grandmother’s table. She doesn’t think you should have to either, and that’s why she co-founded The Natural Citizen. Q&A with Nadia

What motivates you?

A couple of years ago someone in my family asked me which products I would recommend for their quality, and I couldn’t give an answer. It wasn’t because I didn’t know the products, but in fact, I knew too much. From that date on I aspired to develop a line of products that I would be proud to give to my friends and family without hesitation.

How do you integrate nutrition in your life?

I am an avid runner and martial artist; therefore, my body demands good nutrition. Nutrition is the number one thing required to enjoy any activity, from sharing the good moments in life to performing any sport. However, between home, work and activities, smoothies are a great solution for a packed schedule. They contain all of my nutritional needs in one cup “to go” that I can drink just about anywhere.

What is your favorite “go to” healthy dinner?

I am huge fan of grilling pretty much anything, but seafood and vegetables are my favorites.
